RECORD PRIZE FUND EYED FOR NEW MEXICO OPEN

The New Mexico Open, one of a plethora of tournaments held annually that helps account for more than 10 percent of the annual linage at Tenpins & More in Rio Rancho, N.M., will offer a record prize-fund of $70,450 in its 19th renewal Aug. 18-20.

The maximum field size is 240, which would boost the payout to more than $80,000 and increase first place to $15,000.

PBA champion Mike Miller will create another challenging lane pattern, which, in some years, has seen squad high-game prizes won by scores in the low 200s.

The prize fund is boosted by the financial support of more than 40 local and national companies, many of them vendors at Tenpins & More.

Emil Williams’ BowlStreamTV.com will cover all three days of competition. In addition, local radio station KDSK 92.3-FM will provide a two-hour live remote from the tournament, encouraging area bowlers to sign up for fall-season leagues starting in late August and early September.

Total prize money paid since the tournament’s inception exceeds $784,000.
