The Illinois State Bowling Proprietors’ Association and Chicagoland BPA’s veteran tournament coordinator, Joy LaCour, is retiring — effective today — and former ISBPA President and center owner Tom Sims is stepping into the position.
LaCour kicked off her industry career at three Chicago-area bowling centers: Jack Nietzel’s Irving Park Lanes, Turner Bowl (where she organized the center’s first youth league) and Habetler Bowl. She then joined the ISBPA and CBPA in November 1997.
The also-retiring Executive Director Bill Duff, who has worked with LaCour throughout her association career, said, “Her organizational skills are so good that she helped grow our tournament business. I always appreciated her versatility and skill in handling a variety of responsibilities, be it running a tournament or managing a variety of office-related tasks, always keeping the association moving forward.”
Noted LaCour: “I will always cherish my time serving the industry.”
Sims, previous owner of Fox Bowl, brings a lifetime of experience to the tournament coordinator’s job. In addition to running bowling centers and tournaments, he has extensive statewide and community board experience and chaired a variety of committees. Sims received the ISBPA’s Louis P. Petersen Award in 2017.
