Germany Kent has made countless television appearances, is considered an expert in social media marketing and etiquette, and has authored a series of “Hope Handbooks” for couples, moms, dads, singles, survivors, leaders and others.
One of her better-known observations is: “Once you begin to take note of the things you are grateful for, you begin to lose sight of the things that you lack.”
A prominent talk-radio host and author, Dennis Prager, put it more succinctly many years ago when he suggested, “The key to happiness is being grateful for what you have.”
It’s useful (not to mention healthy) to keep this in mind throughout the year, but it always rises to the forefront during November, the month of Thanksgiving. It is not coincidental that we have chosen November for BCM’s annual “Karma” series, which this year features a half-dozen stories about bowling people who do the right things for the right reasons. The concept originated during the time I was editor of Bowlers Journal International, in which the stories were branded “What’s Right With Bowling.”
This year, the “Karma” series is wider ranging than ever as we dig into not only the great things people in our industry are doing, but reveal why they are doing them. It’s one thing to talk the talk; it’s quite another to walk the walk. The people featured this year don’t talk as much as they walk, and by their actions demonstrate that they’d have no trouble simultaneously chewing gum if they so desired.
Beginning tomorrow and running through Friday, look for a new story posting each day. Behind them all are dedicated people who are doing the right things for the right reasons.
These are the people we proudly call the bowling family.
