USED PINS GET NEW LIFE IN HOLIDAY CONTEST

Each year, the five centers that comprise Maple Family Centers — like most centers — replace their pins with new ones.

During Thanksgiving week, center team members distributed thousands of pins to bowlers and community groups upon request, inviting them to paint or otherwise decorate them and enter their creations in the inaugural Holiday Pin Decorating Contest.

Many participants utilized acrylic paint, while others used collage or décollage. About three-quarters of the entries featured holiday themes such as snowmen, nutcrackers or Christmas trees.

“We were thrilled that so many bowlers, as well as schools and community groups, wanted to join in the fun and create decorative bowling pins,” said Director of Community Outreach Teresa McCarthy. “Since we regularly upcycle pins, we plan to continue this project in the future.”

Several of the decorated pins are featured in the February issue of BCM.
