BY BOB JOHNSON
Following in the footsteps of Frank Sisson, the legendary Canadian bowling proprietor who released a memoir called “Frankly Speaking” in 2021, legendary American proprietor Jamie Brooks has just released is own book. It’s called “Jamie’s Mostly True Stories… We Meet the Best People in the Alleys.”
Assembled with the assistance of his long-time friend, Jim Goodwin, and Goodwin’s wife, CJ, the book chronicles Brooks’ seven-decade career in the bowling business, a career that has seen him own and operate 44 bowling centers. As a bowler, center owner and industry leader — he’s a member of seven Halls of Fame, including BPAA’s — Brooks has met virtually everyone who’s anyone in bowling and has mentored many of them.
“I have been so blessed to be in this wonderful sport and business all my long life,” said Brooks, now 90, in a media release. “I wanted to tell my story, and the best way to do that was to tell the stories of the incredible people I have known over all these amazing years. I hope everyone enjoys reading them.”
If you’ve worked with or known Brooks anywhere along the way, there’s a good chance you’re included in this book. If not, many of the stories are relatable to anyone who has owned a center, as well as anyone who has wanted to see a center succeed. That would be all of us, so go to Amazon and order something that’s all too rare: a book about the sport and industry we love.
