It was an election year at the BPAA Annual Membership Meeting in Washington, D.C., with Roger Nyquist becoming the association’s new vice president, John Losito its new secretary and Andy Bartholomy its new treasurer.
Tyler Herreman was automatically elevated to president after serving as president-elect. Herreman is a second-generation proprietor in Hays, Kansas. His parents, Bruce and Jill Herreman, acquired Centennial Lanes 46 years ago, and he and his brother Dallas now operate the facility. Herreman and his wife Bethany enjoy traveling and attending bowling events, and are fixtures at the Xtravaganza, the annual fundraising event for the International Bowling Museum and Hall of Fame.
Nyquist has owned Lakeshore Lanes in Albany, Oregon, for nearly 40 years. At age 19, he negotiated the sale of his parents’ center, only to buy it back himself five years later, relocating it to a new building and adding a sports bar, redemption arcade and miniature golf course. A Linn County commissioner for more than 20 years, he lobbies for legislation and programs that benefit local businesses.
Losito, the owner of Sun Valley Lanes and Games in Lincoln, Nebraska, previously served as a BPAA board member for nine years, and last year stepped up to complete the treasurer’s term. He has hosted numerous major bowling tournaments through the years, and in 2017 was named BPAA Proprietor of the Year.
Bartholomy, better known in the industry as “Andy B,” had his eye on a professional bowling career until an injury changed his path. In 1988, he purchased a 12-lane center in Marshfield, Missouri, and quickly learned the importance of volunteering and giving back. He since has grown his business to include multiple Andy B’s locations.
3 OWNERS WITH WIDE SPECTRUM OF EXPERIENCE NAMED DIRECTORS
Members attending the Annual Meeting also elected three directors at large with a wide spectrum of knowledge and skill sets: Bill Brennan, Ron Schmittou and Marty Teifke.
Brennan has been a stalwart in local and state volunteerism, and while serving as Illinois State BPA president, led a successful lawsuit that resulted in bowling centers being allowed to reopen, with parameters, during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Schmittou, as the executive vice president of the 15-center Strike and Spare chain, brings a thorough understanding of both traditional center and family entertainment centers to his new board duties.
Teifke has vast experience in pro shop operations and youth development in addition to center operations, and says he is proud of Timbers Bowling Lanes in Maumee, Ohio, being a 76-year member of the BPAA.
