BVL BENEFITS BY $10,000 THANKS TO CHICAGO GOLF EVENT

One hundred thirty-three golfers representing 34 teams gathered at Silver Lake Country Club in Orland Park, Illinois, on Aug. 12 for the 100th Chicagoland BPA Golf Outing.

Guests received commemorative golf hats and balls, along with a gift bag. There were four $25,000 hole-in-one opportunities and a chance to win a BMW Z4, but those prizes went unclaimed.

A 20-minute opening ceremony featured a color guard presentation, the playing of “The Star-Spangled Banner” and a donation to the Veterans K9 Unit, which had a service dog on hand to greet guests.

The ceremony also featured the announcement of a permanent tribute honoring Bill Bard, a longtime association member, past president and national BPAA leader who passed away last December. Each year’s winners henceforth will have their names engraved on the 2-foot-tall trophy.

When the scores were tallied, Fox Bowl in Wheaton (Skip Wolfe, Gregg Zicha, AJ Johnson) and Stars N’ Spare II from Lockport (Chris Mikulich, Brady Lakota, Joe Lichner, Matt Peters) tied at 10-under par, earning co-champion honors and the first engraving on The Bard Cup.

The celebration continued inside despite soggy clothes. Highlights included a live auction, during which two original toothpick art paintings by Bowlers to Veterans Link artist Jeff Metheny raised $2,000. Other auction items featured a Chicago White Sox bat signed by rookie Colin Montgomery and Chicago Cubs tickets. All told, the event generated $10,000 for the BVL.
