A graduate of the Darden School of Business, George Ordway, has opened an entertainment venue called Sun Pins in the Dairy Market development in Charlottesville, Virginia.
The venue features duckpin bowling, interactive darts and never-ending coverage of University of Virginia sports events.
“We wanted to flip the script on the traditional (bowling) experience,” Ordway said. “No black lights, no dark corners — just a bright, social space where people want to spend time.”
He added that the idea for Sun Pins was born during a visit to a Topgolf location when Ordway, a veteran golfer, noticed an intriguing trend.
“Ninety percent of the people there weren’t golfers,” he said. “They were there to socialize over an activity, eat, drink and have fun in the fresh air. It was proof that if the activity is appealing, it can serve as the backdrop for group connection.”
