Although “eatertainment” continues to expand with businesses such as the pickleball-focused Chicken N Pickle — now 13 venues strong and growing — one business in that sector has faltered: Pinstripes.
The Northbrook, Illinois-based company, founded in 2007, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy early this month. According to Nation’s Restaurant News, the publicly traded company owed $143 million in secured debt, prompting the New York Stock Exchange to delist it.
In conjunction with the bankruptcy filing, Pinstripes closed 10 of its 18 locations, leaving three in Illinois and one each in Maryland, Ohio, Minnesota, California and the District of Columbia.
When the first location opened 18 years ago, it developed a solid following with a unique blend of tenpin bowling, bocce and elevated Italian cuisine with a solid wine list.
