Sarasota League Bowls in Boxers for Charity

In a true leg up for both bowling and nonprofits, a group decided to step outside the box—ers.

“Bowling in Boxers,” an event started by a Sarasota LGBT bowling league recently kicked off its 13th Annual event at the AMF Gulf Gate Lanes in Sarasota, Fla. The event, organized to raise awareness, money and support for community causes, included free bowling, free shoes, auctions and a Mr. & Mrs. “Boxers” competition.

The Bowling in Boxers event has raised an estimated $5,000-10,000 in years past. Event organizer Jim Joblanski expected that number to be greater in years to come. The event supports the Sarasota community as well as the ALSO Out Youth: Advocacy Leadership Support Outreach and Diversity: The Voices of Sarasota, a community chorus.

Joblanski told the Herald Tribune of the importance that goes with awareness for his organization ALSO,

“Organizations like ALSO are needed to reinforce the dignity and worth of young people.”

This year’s event numbers are currently being tallied.
