Mark Voight, a veteran Detroit-area bowling proprietor and Treasurer of the Bowling Proprietors’ Association of America, passed away on Monday. He was 75.

News of Voight’s illness became public when he and his wife of 50 years, Diane, did not attend the BPAA Bowling Summit in New Orleans last month. He spent a short time in hospice before his passing.

Voight was well known in the bowling family for his many years of service to the BPAA, including several stints as the association’s Treasurer, a result of his accounting background. In 2015, he was inducted into the BPAA Hall of Fame as the recipient of the Victor Lerner Memorial Award.

The Voights operated Community Bowling Centers, a chain that has varied in size through the years, currently consisting of Bowl One Lanes in Troy, Century Bowl in Waterford, Plum Hollow Lanes in Southfield, Skore Lanes in Taylor, Sterling Lanes in Sterling Heights, and Super Bowl in Canton.

Last year, Diane Voight was selected for the BPAA President’s Award. Upon receiving the award, Voight said, “I was taught that when helped by a person or group, it’s my responsibility to pay it back and pay it forward.”

That also was the philosophy of her husband, who served BPAA in many ways trough the years, and also was active in the Multi Unit Bowling Information Group.

Funeral services for Mark Voight are scheduled for Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Ira Kaufman Chapel, with interment at Adat Shalom Memorial Park. Religious services will be conducted at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday.

Those who wish to honor the memory of Voight may do so by making a contribution to: Hospice of Michigan / Oakland County, 43097 Woodward Ave., Bloomfield Hills, MI 48302 (http://www.hom.org/donations/), or a charity of one’s choice.
