Ace Mitchell Bowlers Mart has resumed full business operations at its locations in Deer Park, N.Y., and Nashville, Tenn., joining its Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, headquarters, which has been operating at full capacity since May.
“We’re definitely seeing business coming back,” said company President Jeff Mraz. “We’re not quite at pre-COVID levels, but with New York state back at 50% and other markets fully open, we’re definitely getting stronger.”
This good news, however, comes on the heels of some difficult cuts. The company has made a round of layoffs and will shutter its Florida warehouse by the end of August. Jason Couch will remain as sales rep in Florida and the Southern states. All other members of the outside sales force continue to service customers remotely and in person.
“We are adjusting the company to meet the size of the market,” said Mike Grau, the company’s owner and head of operations. “These changes are necessary to stay viable while still maintaining level of service and inventory availability. We can’t be caught in a position where we are overleveraged with staff and facilities.”
The company plans to resume growth plans, albeit more slowly than before the pandemic.
“We hope to bring back everybody in some way or other,” said Mraz. “We’re a strong and well-managed company with some of the best people in the industry. Despite everything that’s happened, we’re still optimistic.”
Ace Mitchell Bowlers Mart is a family-owned, full-line bowling wholesale distributor. With headquarters in Cuyahoga Falls, the company also has locations in Long Island and Nashville, in addition to the Team Cobra brand of rental shoes.
