After 10 years of discussions about a possible book or movie about Tom Smallwood’s life — from laid-off autoworker to pro bowling champion — CBS finally has stepped up and moved the concept forward.

Bowling was last featured regularly on scripted television when the drama-comedy “Ed,” starring Tom Cavanagh and Julie Bowen, aired on NBC from Oct. 8, 2000, through Feb. 6, 2004.
