The Bowlers to Veterans Link has presented the Department of Veteran Affairs with a $100,000 grant to fund multiple Vet Center programs that align with BVL’s recreation therapy mission.
Grant applications would be sent out by the VA to all Vet Centers to apply for BVL grants up to $10,000 per program.
The announcement was made during a segment of “FOX & Friends” on the FOX News Channel on National Bowling Day.
Vet Centers are community-based counseling centers, essentially “gathering places” for veterans to seek help in transitioning from military to civilian life. The funding would support counseling, community engagement and referral service programs to help reach more veterans from the community, including those who are homeless, and provide an entry point to recreation therapy services at the Vet Centers that would be free of charge to the veterans.
These Vet Centers often provide the first interaction a veteran has with the VA, particularly for those who are reluctant or hesitant to engage. Additionally, staff members are able to help veterans get the services and benefits they deserve and facilitate a more seamless access to the VA.
In May 2020, BVL made a $100,000 donation to the Department of Veteran Affairs to fund tele-therapy programs for veterans to help them keep a virtual personal connection during the COVID-19 pandemic.
