At least one local government agency recognizes the importance of bowling.
The Sturgis (S.D.) Economic Development Corporation has been working to purchase the Sturgis Strikers bowling center, which has been up for sale for about a year, with the goal of maintaining it as a bowling venue.
Allowing it to continue to operate as a bowling center far outweighs the cost to construct a new facility and preserves a long-time business in downtown Sturgis, SEDC Executive Director Amanda Anglin said.
The center has been in business for 65 years.
