DINER OWNER SAVES CLOSED CENTER’S GIANT PIN FROM SALVAGE YARD

San Juan Lanes Bar and Grill in Anacortes, Wash., may have been razed last year, but its giant-pin “BOWL” sign had remained in place until late April. That’s when it was removed and transported to a local salvage yard for what figured to be an ignominious end.

But when Fletcher McLean, co-owner of Dad’s Diner in the Skagit County community of 16,000, heard about it, he sprang into action. He cut a deal with the salvage company to purchase the sign, and had it moved to the Dad’s Diner building for display there.

“It’s a landmark and has historical significance; it shouldn’t be anywhere but Anacortes,” McLean told the Anacortes American.
