The cost of doing business in Washington state went up with the turn of a calendar page today as the minimum wage increased to $17.13 per hour.
Many cities in the state — including Bellingham, Everett and Renton — have their own higher rates. In Seattle, the new minimum wage is $21.30 per hour.
The impact on bowling centers can be profound, forcing proprietors to cut staff, raise prices, limit hours or some combination of the three. Technology can help to some degree, with advancements in online reservation software and kiosks reducing staffing needs.
