Albany Bowl in Albany, Calif., had been in business for 71 years when proprietor John Tierney announced that the center would be closing permanently.
Tierney cited the ongoing restrictions placed on businesses by California’s state government, and said after paying a large tax bill and investing $700,000 in infrastructure to ensure a safe environment, “I can’t hold on for six more months.”
Another iconic Northern California center, Cloverleaf Family Bowl in Fremont, closed down last year for similar reasons.
