For five and a half hours on the last day of July, Rab’s Country Lanes hosted a special event called “Rock ’n Bowl for Our Vets,” featuring live music, raffles and lots of bowling.
Frank Wilkinson, proprietor of the center and Chair of the Rab Wilkinson Foundation, said the event honored all of those who have served the United States. That includes his late father, for whom the foundation is named, who served in the U.S. Army from 1962 through 1964 in Chalons Vatry, France.
“The inaugural event honors his service along with all of those from Staten Island who have sacrificed for our freedom,” Wilkinson said.
Five popular Staten Island bands rocked the house: DOC Holiday, Johnny Fish and the Fins, Radio Waves, American Cover Story and Kismet.
“The event was amazing,” said Wilkinson. “The support for our veterans was outstanding. We owe it to these fine men and women to take care of them, and the Rab Wilkinson Foundation is committed to doing so for years to come. A new tradition started this year.”
By the event’s end, more than $20,000 had been raised to support local veterans’ programs through the Bowlers to Veterans Link.
