The bowling business saw two major changes in early April as Dave Symes announced his retirement as the president of Storm Products and Teri Haugh was named the new executive director of the International Bowling Pro Shop and Instructors Association.

Symes will not be stepping away from Storm entirely. The company said he would continue as a senior advisor, and that founder Bill Chrisman would assume the president’s position on an interim basis until a successor for Symes is selected. Chrisman also continues as Storm’s chief executive officer.

“In the beginning we were just trying to make a difference and trying to do what was right for bowlers,” Symes said. “We never could have imagined this kind of growth and this kind of success. I guess when you put your heart into it and have some passion for it, anything is possible.

Haugh comes to IBPSIA after decades of helping grow and elevate bowling in her home state of Minnesota. She’ll now have the opportunity to showcase her experience, skills, passion and ideas globally.

“I think this is the perfect next step in my life and an opportunity to use things I’ve done and learned to bring the organization to the next level,” Haugh said. “I really appreciate the ‘unicorns’ who came before me — guys like Del Warren, Mo Pinel, Ron Hoppe — for all they’ve done for our industry. I want to take what they’ve laid out and continue to build on it.”
