Tropical Storm Lala, which struck in mid-August, was just the latest reminder that Hawaii is not always a sunny tropical paradise.
With that in mind, the Waikiki Beach Marriott Resort & Spa recently opened a new indoor family entertainment center adjacent to the hotel’s registration area. It’s called the Ohana Entertainment Center, and includes four “boutique bowling” lanes, more than 60 arcade games, a virtual reality experience and sports simulators.
The center spans 6,000 square feet and was developed in partnership with Family Entertainment Group with the idea of providing an indoor entertainment option not only for guests of the hotel but also nearby residents, for whom such options are few and far between.
The hotel already offers a luau, other Hawaiian cultural programming, oceanfront dining and a pool deck — meaning guests never need to leave the property if they don’t wish to.
In the Hawaiian language, “ohana” means family, and includes close friends and chosen community in the definition.
