IOWA CENTER BOUNCING BACK FROM PANDEMIC AND FLOOD

Every center has faced challenges during the pandemic, but Bowl Mor Lanes in the Iowa community of Sanborn took a double punch to the gut after it was purchased by Bert and Bev Van Dam and their sons, Josh and Jeremy, in May 2019.

First, of course, was the mandated COVID-related closure that so many businesses were forced to endure. Then, barely a month after reopening last August, the center suffered major damage caused by a water leak.

But the new owners dug in, not only replacing what needed to be replaced but also investing in other upgrades to make the center more accessible for those in wheelchairs.

Work is ongoing on the food-and-beverage side of the business, but Bert Van Dam says the bowling lanes have been humming.

“The community has been really good about coming back to bowl,” he said. “We’ve been really, really busy.”
