It’s always fun when bowling provides the backdrop for a television sitcom or drama. It’s often dumb, but it’s still fun, not to mention great exposure.
Through the years, bowling has been a “co-star” on “Happy Days,” “Laverne & Shirley,” “Married with Children,” “Cheers,” “The Simpsons,” “Fargo,” “The Sopranos,” “Blue Bloods,” “CSI” and many other series.
Come early March, fans of the police procedural “Chicago P.D.” will see a scene that was filmed at Lawn Lanes, a center that has been operated by the Supanich family for more than 50 years in Chicago’s West Lawn neighborhood.
Current owner David Supanich, recently inducted into the Chicagoland USBC Hall of Fame, said the booking came together quickly, as he was approached in early December and the all-day shoot took place on Dec. 16. Supanich said around 150 people were at the bowl throughout the day, and a few did some bowling during their lunch break. He added that members of displaced leagues were understanding, noting that many are fans of the show.
The episode is titled, “Live or Die with Your C.I.,” and will air on NBC.
